Program Overview

The Equitable Mathematics Education Leadership professional studies certificate will prepare you to lead and teach elementary and middle school math education courses. This program is a closed cohort for Prince George’s County Public Schools and those accepted into the program will receive full funding toward the cost of tuition.

Our program aims to enhance your ability to catalyze change by fostering deep mathematical understanding and promoting instructional practices aligned with contemporary mathematical standards. After completing this program, you will be prepared to elevate and harness students' diverse social, cultural, linguistic, and cognitive assets for the learning of mathematics.

The four integrated themes of the program are: 

  • Student-centered Pedagogy
  • Mathematics Content Conceptual Understanding
  • Culturally and Linguistically Sustaining Pedagogy
  • Teacher Leadership

Learning Goals

Our program prepares teachers to become highly qualified in elementary and
middle school mathematics by enhancing their content knowledge and
strengthening their understanding of effective mathematics instruction for
students in diverse school settings.

How to Apply

To apply to the P.B.C.  Equitable Mathematics Education Leadership, you must have at least a 3.0 GPA in all undergraduate and graduate work.  Those with a GPA below 3.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  The following materials should also be prepared as part of your application: 

  • A letter of recommendation (from a supervisor in PGCPS)

  • A statement of purpose (see application for details)

  • Resume describing relevant teaching work
